Puggles are considered great pets for homes with children because they are adorable and very playful. This article will give you a lot of information on the physical features and general temperament of this particular breed of dog.
A puggle isn’t considered a pure breed, but a cross between a beagle and a pug. This is basically a designer dog, considering that it is a mix of two very popula show dogs. The puggle was first bred and received a name in the 1990s. This type of dog is owned by many popular people nowadays and is one of the most known breeds of dogs in the world.
They didn’t get on the American Kennel Club list of breeds because they aren’t purebred. Even so, they did get on the American Canine Hybrid Club list of breeds. Puggles are still considered mutts, even though some breeders call them superior breed dogs and usually they are only bred under special observation. Regardless of their status in the list of breeds, Puggles are still among the most loved and desired pet dog breeds across the world.

Physical Features
A fully grown puggle will usually have a weight between 15 and 30 pounds and a height of anywhere between 10 and 15 inches. They will have a lifespan of up to 15 years. These dogs can be found in a multitude of colors, ranging from white, fawn brown, black, to even multicolored. They will usually shed less than other types of dogs due to their very short fur. These dogs are known to have shiny and smooth coats, thickset bodies, drooping ears, and short legs, qualities they would inherit from both their parents. Their eyes will be prominent, dark, and quite big, while the muzzle will be black. Their tail will usually be curled.
Their Temperament
You should expect your Puggle to be intelligent and very energetic. These dogs are also affectionate, lovable, and gentle, being able to get along with people of all ages, including children. They will also need your constant attention. Puggles are also known to be mischievous from time to time, while also having an independent personality. This means that you can’t always count on them to do as you please. Frequent outings, running, playtime, and walks will make them happy, as they strive for physical activity. These are just some of the reasons why they are considered great companions.
Keep in mind that every dog has his own personality, so not all puggles will be sweet or have a playful character. It will usually come down to what genes will the dog take from each of the parents. This means that inside the same litter, there might be dogs that take traits from one parent, while other pups might take traits from the other. There have been instances where people actually adopted a puggle that was hard to train, non-cooperative, and very proud.
Puggles are known to almost never show aggression, doing a very poor job as guard dogs. These dogs will have a hard time just lazing around due to their energetic nature. They should be kept away from strenuous physical activity because their short snout might put them at risk of breathing issues.
Their raining
Not all puggles are easy to train. Most of them will be very stubborn most of the time, although they do have a rather playful nature. You will require a lot of patience, persistence, and positive reinforcement if you want to train them. You will have to train them properly even though it will be hard because otherwise, they will be disobedient and very stubborn. Although Puggles don’t bark a lot, they will usually howl more than other dog breeds. If you leave them alone for longer periods of time, they will howl a lot.
Caring for Them
You will have to be prepared for extensive physical activity and daily exercise both when having a Puggle pup and when it reaches adulthood. They won’t need any special treatment or care, which makes them low-maintenance dogs. You will only have to take care of the usual things like clipping the nails and periodic baths.
A lot of puggles will suffer from conditions like snoring, snorting, or noisy breathing due to stenotic nares, which is a condition also known as pinched nostrils. They should also be protected from extreme cold or heat, as they are very sensitive to high variations in temperature. They are also vulnerable to wheezing and colds. You should also have a vet close by in case of medical issues and a diet plan prepared for when you bring the puggle home.
You should also remember not to leave the Puggle alone and without regular attention and love. They will do a lot better indoors with family members close by than in a lonely space somewhere in the yard.
Puggles are very fun to have around especially due to their playful nature and sweet temper. If you want a family dog and don’t know what to get, then the Puggle will be perfect for you. This is a dog that can go through quite a few medical issues, so make sure you read about them before getting it.
