The weight will also be lower in the case of females. The average female Maine Coon will only weigh between 9 and 12 pounds. Of course, we’re talking of averages so surely there are specimens that get a lot heavier than this.

So what about the regular house cat? What is its normal weight? As I keep saying, there are quite a few cats that are actually heavier than Maine Coon cats. Male cats will have an average weight of around 10 pounds. The weigh difference is easily noticeable, considering that Maine Coons weigh anywhere between 13 and 18 pounds.

In the case of the average weight of the female cat, things are slightly different, considering that the normal female cat will have a weight of about 9 pounds, while the female Coon, like I said above, will weigh between 9 and 12 pounds. This means that there isn’t such a big difference in weight when it comes to females.

But we shouldn’t talk only about the weight of these pets when comparing normal cats to Coons. Let’s also go over the size, or better said, length of the cats. When measured from the end of its tail to the tip of the nose, the longest ever recorded Maine Coon was 48.5 inches long. This size is amazing when compared to the average Coon and the average cat for that matter, and this is also the reason why that particular cat got its place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

BUt I say the real length of the cat should be measured from the tip of its nose to the base of the tail, because tails can also differ in size. So what is the actual length of Coon cats when we ignore the length of the tail? THe average length of both female and male Coons will be pretty much the same, between 19 and 30 inches.

Now let’s go over the size of the average house cat. The average-looking cats will be way smaller, with an average length of 15 to 20 inches for both females and males.

This makes the size difference pretty considerable, seeing that the longest normal cats will basically be the same size as the shortest of the Main Coons specimens.

Comparing Regular & Maine Coon Tails

I chose to omit the size of the tail in this last comparison, mainly because this part of the cat can vary considerably. But how could we just skip them completely? Especially considering that the tail will actually show yet another difference between normal cats and Maine Coons.

Even the 10 inch tail will be at least two inches shorter than the shortest tail of a Main Coon. To the end of the range in terms of tail size, the Maine Coon will see a size that would be double than that of the average cat’s tail.
